NPSA s Latest YouTube Video Demos Refrigerated Storage Tips

Refrigerated portable storage containers offer a safe, on-site option for businesses whose goods demand controlled climates. Portable storage containers can be equipped to keep goods at temperatures ranging from –20 degrees Fahrenheit to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The NPSA has produced a new video on Google’s YouTube, called “Getting the Most Out of Your Refrigerated Container,” to offer tips for connecting and operating a refrigerated portable storage unit.”Portable storage units are adaptable in all sorts of weather, but it’s important to understand the dos and don’ts of keeping refrigerated containers operating properly,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “That begins on delivery and continues through to loading and accessing the goods inside.”

The NPSA’s 2007 Chairman, Phil Herndon, takes viewers on a YouTube video tour that demonstrates how to use refrigerated portable storage containers – and how not to use them. It all begins with the delivery. “Before delivery, make sure you have the appropriate power wattage. You need at least 220 volts,” Herndon explained. “Always use a trained electrician to hook up this container to the power source.”

NPSA Chairman Invents Tool to Realign Container Doors

Nobody likes to be locked out. Unfortunately, portable storage containers are often loaded with one side heavier than the other. This can cause the container to shift out of alignment and make it difficult to open or close the doors. The National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, is helping take the frustration out of container storage misalignments with an instructional video on YouTube, a viral video site Google runs, to clearly demonstrate how to open a stuck door using a brand new invention.”You may discover the portable storage container doors are misaligned after you load your contents into the container,” said Phil Herndon, 2007 Chairman of the NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “If you cannot close one side of the double door, or if one of the doors seems like it may be sprung, then you have an alignment problem.”

Portable Storage a Boon to Commercial Real Estate Market

With commercial real estate prices expected to fall as much as 15 percent over the next year – the largest dip since the 2001 recession – it’s time to hold on to property and keep it rented.Portable storage is helping the cause. Portable storage containers add external square footage to your commercial real estate property. That means you don’t need to build additional facilities before you absolutely need them. Portable storage containers come in various sizes and colors. These units can be strategically positioned in the back of a commercial facility. That puts the containers out the customers’ site but still conveniently in reach of tenants who need extra storage space for overstock, tools or other items.

“We frequently hear stories about commercial landlords who have extended their facility’s use by adding portable storage containers to the mix,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “You can even charge an incremental fee to the tenant in many cases. It’s a win-win.”

Jesse Jenkins, owner of Jedlicka’s Saddlery, Inc. in Santa Barbara, can testify to that fact. Jenkins owns a commercial building from which he sells his saddles, and he rents part of the building to a carpet flooring business. But Jenkins was threatened with losing his tenant when the carpet business grew out of the space. “My tenant didn’t have enough storage…we provided that with a portable storage container,” Jenkins explains. “Now he’s renting additional space from us.”

Portable Storage Kicks Off NFL Season

he National Football League (NFL) is kicking off its 42nd season this September with a star-studded roster that includes the likes of Peyton Manning, Randy Moss and Tiki Barber. If 42 seasons seems like a long time, consider that containerized storage has it beat by nine years.Even though containerized storage is 51 years old, sports franchises aren’t ready to retire this veteran player just yet. That’s because portable storage containers can help professional sports teams out of a space crunch, offering additional square footage to store equipment, balls, bags and whatever else star athletes at any level of the game – from pee wee to pros – may need in a hurry.

“Portable storage has been serving the needs of the sports industry for years,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “When it comes to seasonal sports, universities, amateur and professional teams alike rely on portable storage containers to keep equipment safe, dry and in good shape until it’s time for the next championship run.”

NPSA Goes On the Record with Portable Storage

Five years after the Enron and WorldCom financial accounting scandals sparked regulations known as Sarbanes-Oxley, or SOX, records management is still a hot topic. That’s because of the challenges that go along with the requirement to store mountains of data. That challenge will become a $1.3 billion industry by 2008, according to Forrester Research.

Although digital solutions are making inroads to the records management business, copies of old-fashioned paper documents are still necessary in many cases. What’s more, the CD-ROMs, data backup tapes and other storage media must also be stowed away for safekeeping and easy retrieval. That can be a costly proposition, but it doesn’t have to be.

“Even if you are only paying $10 a square foot for office space, spending it on a room full of filing cabinets can add up to a hefty investment in a hurry,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “You can reduce your on-site storage costs and use that space for revenue-generating activities if you leverage portable storage containers to store your records.”

NPSA Fights Heat Wave with Cool Storage Units

With a heat wave bringing triple-digit temperatures from the plains through the Southeast, air conditioning is hardly a luxury. It’s a necessity, as unbearable climates land scores of people in the emergency room with heat exhaustion and heat strokes. Portable storage vendors are ready with climate-controlled, AKA, air-conditioned units.

“Portable storage isn’t just hot metal boxes anymore. Today’s technology makes room for powerful air conditioning units to keep the contents of the unit cool, whether those contents are people or perishable items,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry.

Portable Storage Addresses Classroom Overcrowding

School may be out for summer, but a new semester will begin in just weeks - and school overcrowding is still making headlines. In fact, overcrowded schools continue to be a major national problem, according to a study by the Neighborhood Capital Budget Group, despite a public sector effort to build more facilities.

“Studies show unpleasant consequences from overcrowded schools, including a negative impact on student learning,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. “Portable storage can offer solutions that help students realize a better tomorrow.”

Indeed, portable storage containers can be transformed into temporary classroom facilities complete with carpeting and air conditioning. With ramps, steps, safety rails, furniture and fixtures, the portable storage unit serves as a foundation for solving the overcrowded school problem.

What’s more, the containers are inexpensive, making it an economically viable alternative to building new facilities for temporary enrollment overloads. Alternatively, the containers can be used as mobile classrooms that travel from school district to school district for special educational events. In any case, the containers can be stripped and used for traditional storage of athletic equipment and other items if permanent facilities are built.

“Portable storage continues to demonstrate its flexibility to solve the space needs of many industries,” said NPSA Operations Manager Joel Rathbone. “Portable and temporary classrooms kill several birds with one stone: they alleviate large expenditures in the school budget, offer storage space for records and equipment, and, most importantly, help make sure students have every opportunity to learn in a quality environment.”

NPSA Fights Internet Fraud With Web Alerts

Today’s Internet threat environment is characterized by an increase in data theft, data leakage and the creation of targeted, malicious code for the purpose of stealing confidential information that can be used for financial gain, according to the latest Internet Security Threat Report from Symantec. The National Portable Storage Association, , a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry, is helping the storage industry fight back with timely alerts about e-mail scams.Symantec reports high levels of coordinated attacks combining spam, malicious code, and online fraud. During the second half of 2006, spam made up 59 percent of all monitored e-mail traffic marking a steady increase over the first six months of 2006. Over the last six months of 2006, Symantec detected a total of 166,248 unique phishing messages, an average of 904 per day, marking a 6 percent increase over the first six months of 2006. Phishing messages attempt to get the recipient to disclose personal information that bad guys can use to steal their identities.

“Part of the solution to malicious spam lies in software products, but part of the solution also lies in vigilance,” said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the NPSA. “The NPSA is keeping a close watch for e-mail scams that affect our membership and we have been successful in sounding the alarm and preventing the victimization of containerized storage vendors. The bottom line is this: don’t click on any links in an e-mail from a person or company you don’t know. You never know what’s malicious software could get installed on your site.”
